2013 in review.
1 ) An exciting road show with our partner Ovation MCI took our ECM events manager on a journey to most of their European offices. The route led them to 6 cities in 5 countries over a period of 5 days in February.
2 ) In February we launched a brand new activity. Our Delicacy Safaris in Malta and Gozo have since been tried out by fam trip guests and the first groups and have proved to be a tasty success.
3 ) A cold wind blew our colleague to Moscow for a sales trip in February together with our representation company Destico. We do not know whether it was the presentations and meetings or the few vodkas in between that confirmed some Russian groups throughout 2013 to Malta.
4 ) Just a few days later, our ECM Viking Jonna left for an equally cold sales blitz in Belgium where she did not only impress our clients in great meetings but also brought back some delicious Belgian chocolates to the office.
5 ) In March we were once again honoured with the M&IT Bronze Award as Best Destination Management Company. It was the second year in a row and a success story that will hopefully be repeated in 2014.
6 ) Soon after, Mark attended the first Meetings Space Workshop in Berlin and came back with plenty of new contacts.
7 ) To take some time off, the whole ECMeetings team spend a teambuilding weekend in Gozo in March. Some new ideas were tested and might be found in our proposals very soon.
8 ) The happiest news of March was the birth of Marco’s first baby on 23rd of March. A few weeks later he and his wife decided to name the boy Michael.
9 ) Our events manager Jonna was more than busy with all the new clients and requests that she brought back after her visit at the TUR fair in Gothenburg in March.
10 ) In April the first fully translated ECMeetings proposal was sent out in German. This became a new trend after the group confirmed a few weeks later.
11 ) During the whole month of April ECM serviced more than 800 delegates. The team was out and about like busy bees to take good care of all of them.
12 ) After a lot of work and patience, the ECM website was launched in Swedish during the month of May, opening more possibilities to connect to the Scandinavian market.
13 ) During IMEX in Frankfurt which was held in May, Mark and Jonna met new and old customers on the Malta stand. Some very interesting new connections were the result of a busy three days period.
14 ) Meanwhile back in Malta our colleague Liam announced that he and his wife are expecting their first baby. The baby boy will be born in the end of January.
15 ) Jonna hosted a number of agents from Sweden on a fam trip in June. Several new requests came in afterwards and one of our guests already confirmed a group for 2014.
16 ) The long wait for a Café del Mar outlet in Malta ended in June when the venue opened its doors to a stylish and promising location. Of course the Café del Mar will form part of our portfolio in 2014.
17 ) Excitement was in the air when 2,000 students from North America arrived on a cruise liner in July. We took them around Malta for 3 days where they explored both our historic and modern culture.
18 ) The fantastic FlyBoard started operating on Malta’s shores this summer. We at ECMeetings were the first to launch the idea for groups and successfully wowed our fam trip guests who were the first lucky ones to try the experience with us.
19 ) Enjoying the fabulous summer weather, the ECMeetings team took a break together. A day on a luxury yacht got our energies up and the tan on the way.
20 ) Following the recent trends and hypes on the social media front, ECMeetings created an Instagram account in August. Some of our posts can be found using #ecmeetings.
21 ) In August Jonna took the opportunity to enjoy the mild Scandinavian summer for a few days. A sales trip led her to Sweden and Denmark where she met plenty of new clients.
22 ) During the summer the Malta National Aquarium opened its doors after a long waiting period. It’s a great addition to our leisure portfolio and we are already looking forward to showing it to our groups.
23 ) In September we were honoured with the Ovation MCI Award as Strategic Partner of the Year for our Excellence in Sales and Marketing throughout 2013.
24 ) Our Russian fam trip guests who visited Malta in September were flabbergasted when Grand Master Jean Parisot de la Valette himself welcomed them for a luxury dinner.
25 ) During the month of September we operated a total of 9 events on the same weekend. Definitely a first in the history of ECMeetings.
26 ) October was a big month for us, one of the reasons being IMEX America in Las Vegas. For the first time ever ECMeetings was present at the fair in the US connecting to new clients in North and South America.
27 ) A second ‘first time’ was also taking place at the IMEX America – never before had ECMeetings joined the Ovation Global stand. But together with our partner around the world Mark spent some productive days in Las Vegas and returned with new requests en masse.
28 ) We also hosted a German fam trip on October. The clients were impressed with the dynamic programme we organised and the beauty of the Maltese islands.
29 ) On 25th October it was international Wear it Pink Day in aid of breast cancer research. For the first time ECMeetings teamed up with the organisation in the UK and threw a pink themed garden party. The collected amount was donated to the British fund raisers.
30 ) During the whole month of October ECMeetings welcomed more than 600 delegates to Malta.
31 ) During autumn we experienced a few changes in our team and gave a hearty welcome to our new team member Chris who brings in a wealth of experience.
32 ) Another cold sales blitz to Russia was happening in November. Our events manager visited a number of agencies and brought back new contacts so the investment in long johns was definitely worth it.
33 ) The weather couldn’t have been better for the guests of our Benelux fam trip in November. The ten guests spent memorable days in Malta and will most of all remember the lovely day in Gozo with a sunny ftira lunch in the nature.
34 ) Since November the ECMeetings website has been hosted by a different server and even though it looks like nothing has changed, the site has been working faster and more efficient since.
35 ) During the month of November we also welcomed a small group of delegates who chose to experience our exclusive Pimp my Ride activity. The original ECMeetings idea turned out to be a great success.
36 ) December started with another team building day for ECMeetings. Inspired by the Pimp my Ride activity we took a day to pimp our offices. Shifting desks and painting walls kept us busy for a whole day and changed our feng shui completely.
37 ) More happy news reached the ECmeetings family when Chris announced that he and his wife are expecting their first baby in April.
38 ) Our most successful Facebook post ever was a picture posted on 16th December.The post was viewed more than a 1,000 times within the first hour and got more than 40 likes within a day.
39 ) On 19th December, our last full working day before the Christmas break, Mark’s son Sebastian visited us in the office. At the age of 1 year 9 months he was probably disappointed that our work took most of our attention so he found the switch of our server and disabled it for the rest of the day, cutting us off from all clients and suppliers.
40 ) We are happy to say that we had the busiest December in the 12 years of ECMeetings. Preparing for 2014 and sending out new proposals took most of our time so that we are looking forward to a prosperous New Year.
41 ) The best Christmas gift of the year will be for Mark. During our Christmas shut down he and his wife are expecting their second child. The baby will be born on the 25th December.
42 ) Throughout 2013 we hosted a number of fam trips. Most of the guests had never been to Malta before and left with a good impression and great memories.
43 ) 2013 was the first year with a regular monthly newsletter. We received some great feedback on our news and received some requests for the venues we were introducing every month.
44 ) The last year was also the first full year of a successful cooperation with Malta’s most famous wedding planner Sarah Young.
45 ) The ECMeetings website has had nearly 30% more visitors in 2013 over 2012. We are happy to see that our marketing strategies are paying off and that a large number of requests are coming in through the website.
46 ) During 2013 we welcomed more than 4,000 delegates to Malta and we are happy to say that as far as we are aware they left with happy memories.
47 ) We already confirmed some great business for 2014, 2015 and even 2016. We hope to continue with that throughout the New Year.
48 ) Some cool new ideas have been launched by ECMeetings and will be offered exclusively by us. However we are protective over these for now but if you are getting curious please do feel free to call and ask.
49 ) At the end of 2013 we have a total of 291 likes on the ECMeetings Facebook page. We are wondering how long it will take to reach 300.
50 ) Last but not least we are looking forward to our end of the year party on 20th December and to a new colleague who will be joining our team in January.
