Less Glamour, More Quality.
The client approached ECMeetings to organise 3 incentive groups, back to back on three weekends in June for approximately 90 guests in each group.
The idea was to create a fun, engaging and active program with some surprise elements and culinary highlights in trendy locations of the island. The group involved young sales people, mostly men with a young energetic character, looking for a fun and authentic weekend experience in Malta.
The program was to include an awards ceremony, lunches, activities on land and sea, dinners and some clubbing.
The Challenge
The challenge was to find back to back dates in the peak season, where all the same venues, activities and hotel accommodation would be available. The client wanted the incentive group to see the main highlights of the island, but in a fun and unique way, keeping in mind that each incentive only had a duration of 2 nights.
The Result
The three incentive groups involved a total of 300 participants from German speaking European destinations and each incentive was a real success. The participants felt they had plenty of networking opportunities and that a lot of detail went into planning a perfect weekend of discovering three islands in three days with a perfect mix of activities, trendy venues, historical sites
They arrived on Friday afternoon and were welcomed with a typical Mediterranean lunch at the nearby Waterfront in Birgu. With views of the Grand Harbour and Valletta participants enjoyed various platters and a seafood lunch. Just outside the restaurant two traditional Turkish gullets berthed for an afternoon at sea with a fun activity called ‘Battle at Sea’.
Pirates versus Knights is a fun and innovative teambuilding activity for incentive groups. Two teams face the Battle at Sea, each on their own wooden gullet. Whilst cruising towards the battle location, the teams perform various tasks on board (Flag of Honour, Knot, a Quiz, and a Wooden Puzzle). Depending on the number of points gained whilst solving the various tasks, the knights and pirates will be able to “purchase” water pistols, water cannons, buckets and other equipment needed to build targets for their boat. Targets are placed around the vessel. Once the horn has been signalled, the battle begins. The aim of the battle at sea is to “sink” the opponent’s vessel by destroying all the water-soluble targets.
This water based activity allowed the participants to see a lot of cultural sites and fortifications of the island in a fun and active way.
The boats berthed near the chosen hotel in St. Julian’s, at the 4 Star H Hotel.
In the evening comfortable air-conditioned coaches transferred guests to the spectacular Palazzo Parisio & Gardens for an exclusive gala dinner and awards ceremony. Round tables and a stage were set up in the gardens and participants enjoyed an aperitif and a 3-course gala dinner, while being entertained by one of Malta’s most popular acoustic duos.
The afterparty took place in St. Julian’s at Level 22 with a large VIP area and an exclusive terrace. A shuttle service from the venue to the hotel was offered throughout the night.
The following day was spent with island hopping activities to the sister islands of Gozo and Comino.
Participants arrived by speedboats in Gozo in 30 minutes and took part in a personalized Gozo Mission, which involved self-drive jeeps, iPads and various stops including a kayak relay race and a salt harvesting activity at the saltpans, where to this day a family keeps the tradition of salt harvesting alive. A typical local lunch was served outdoors with views of the crystal clear seas of the neighbouring island of Comino. After lunch Santa Marija Bay in Comino was exclusively set up for the group with sun loungers, towels and drinks from an open bar. Cruising back by speedboats to the hotel an ice cream boat surprised the participants in the popular Blue Lagoon, offering a selection of ice creams, beers and soft drinks.
The evening was spent on the terrace of The Chophouse, which is located in the nearby town of Sliema and offers possibly the best views of the Valletta Skyline. Participant enjoyed a reception on arrival and a 3-course dinner.
The after-party took place near the hotel at the popular club Hugo’s Terrace, where an exclusive area was set up on the rooftop to enjoy drinks and music throughout the night.
The final morning was spent visiting the baroque capital Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and European Capital of Culture. A farewell lunch was served in the heart of the capital at Suq tal-Belt with a casual outdoor set up and a typical family style lunch.

Client Testimonial
“It was our pleasure to work with ECMeetings on three incentive groups this summer. Their attention to detail, forward thinking, sound experience, and long-lasting supplier relationships helped a lot to make our events successful ones. On a side note, not least because of the great laughs and fun we had, I can fully recommend ECMeetings 😊”
