What we learned from Global MICE Events in 2025 – Insights for Event Planners
For over 20 years, ECMeetings has been attending the world’s leading MICE fairs and events, building expertise, connections, and a deep understanding of what makes events successful.
In 2025, we joined SITE Global in Tulum, inVOYAGE Rio, X by Micebook in Tenerife, XSLI in Dubai, IMEX Frankfurt & America, and IBTM Barcelona to observe trends, gather insights, and reflect on the evolving MICE landscape.
We didn’t just network — we observed, learned, and captured insights shaping the future of MICE. In this blog, we’re sharing what we discovered and how it’s influencing our approach as a DMC in Malta, Portugal, and Italy.

Key Learnings from Global MICE Events
1. Wellbeing is now a core feature
Events are increasingly designed around attendees’ energy, focus, and emotional engagement.
Examples:
-
IMEX Frankfurt: “Be Well” zones offered quiet reflection, guided meditation, and mindful networking.
-
SITE Tulum: Leadership wellbeing integrated into sessions and C‑Suite roundtables, encouraging reflection, curiosity, and personal growth.
-
X by Micebook & XSLI Dubai: Built-in downtime and reflective moments helped attendees recharge amid high-energy programs.
Tip for event planners: Embed short breaks, mindfulness exercises, or reflective sessions into your agenda — even a few minutes can boost energy and engagement.
2. Impact & ESG are expected
Sustainability and measurable impact are no longer optional.
Examples:
-
IMEX Frankfurt: Featured an “Impact Zone” and sustainability-focused sessions, showcasing responsible sourcing, community engagement, and measurable ESG initiatives.
-
Micebook’s “tim” platform: Tracks ESG outcomes — from carbon footprint to materials, waste, and social impact (source).
Tip for event planners: Integrate ESG into every step — make it measurable, intentional, and meaningful.
3. Technology + human connection
Technology should enhance experiences, not replace human connection.
Examples:
-
X by Micebook: Attendees completed a pre-event quiz assigning them to one of four “mindset groups” — Trailblazers, Mavericks, Igniters, or Scribes — which shaped workshops, adventures, and networking.
-
XSLI Dubai: “Gateway” sessions blended cultural experiences with pre-scheduled 1-on-1 meetings.
-
IMEX & IBTM: AI-driven matchmaking and personalized agendas guided attendees efficiently.
Tip for event planners: Use technology strategically to personalize experiences while keeping face-to-face interaction central.
4. Localization wins
Local expertise is a key differentiator for memorable events.
Examples:
-
DMCs and local suppliers stood out across all fairs.
-
Cultural tours, regional gastronomy, and artisan experiences are now essential for immersive programs.
Tip for event planners: Leverage local knowledge to create unique experiences that can’t be replicated elsewhere.
-
Learn more: See examples in Malta, Portugal, and sustainable programs.
5. Trust & collaboration drive success
Relationships and transparency remain central to high-impact events.
Examples:
-
Curated networking, small-group discussions, and pre-scheduled meetings emphasized quality over quantity.
-
Long-term partnerships between planners, suppliers, and DMCs create sustainable event success.
Tip for event planners: Prioritize meaningful connections and transparency in planning to build trust and long-term collaboration.

How ECMeetings is adapting
Based on what we learned from global MICE events, here’s how we’re putting these insights into practice:
-
Wellbeing: We include simple ways to help attendees recharge, like short mindfulness or meditation sessions, quiet reflection spaces, or a morning stretch before busy workshops.
-
Sustainability & ESG: We work with local partners for catering and activities, focus on reducing waste and energy use, and create opportunities for guests to engage with local communities.
-
Technology & Personalization: We use tools to help participants plan their agenda and connect with the right people, without losing the focus on in-person interactions.
-
Local Experiences: From historic tours in Valletta, outdoor adventures in Alentejo, to cooking classes in Tuscany, we create programs that let attendees really experience the destination.
-
Building Relationships: We organize small-group dinners, roundtable discussions, and curated networking, so connections are meaningful and long-lasting.
“Behavioural insights and curated experiences aren’t just trends — they’re transforming how events are designed and remembered.”

Looking ahead: 2026 and beyond
-
Immersive, human-centred events will dominate.
-
Sustainability and measurable impact will be expected.
-
Technology will continue to enable personalization, but human connection and experience remain central.
-
Planners who embrace these trends and partner with experienced DMCs will create events that leave a lasting impression.
