Visitors to the island of Gozo might be surprised to find the beautiful beach at Mgarr ix-Xini closed since Sunday. The beach is to remain closed until 10th November as it will be used as shooting location for the new production of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, ‘By the Sea’.

Hollywood’s most famous couple scouted the area during a visit to Malta in June and decided that parts of the movie are to be shot on the pebbly beach in Gozo. Constructions for the film set have been going on since with one building nearly finished and another one well on the way. The bay was open to the public until Sunday 17th August after which both the land and sea access were blocked off.

Few details on the film’s plot have been published so far but the production is labelled as a blockbuster and is expected to pour millions into the Gozitan economy. ‘By the Sea’, which is written and directed by Angelina Jolie herself and the first movie together with Brad Pitt since ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ in 2005, is scheduled to be released in 2015.
